Aren’t spontaneous dates fun? The benefit of having to dress proper for practice sessions is that I’m marginally fine dining dinner ready. A and I decided to try someplace near the courts one weekday night, and walked down to Senso Ristorante – a lovely Italian restaurant with a quiet and elegant ambiance near Gemmill Lane. The open courtyard is a dream to hold weddings or product launches at, and standing speakers and large television screens hold fort inside the indoor seating area.

saffron risotto with foie gras and rum-soaked cherries

I don’t like risotto, thus stealing only cubes of creamy foie gras from A’s plate, cooked to a nice consistency. Actually, I most liked the alcoholic cherries, which cut through the richness of the foie gras and the tiny bit spoonful of risotto that I tasted. A great combination. My capellini was doused in what tasted like crab oil, along with generous chunks of crab, and the seared scallops were plump and juicy and cooked just nicely. Only slightly annoyed at having to pick out bits of crab shell here and there.

Senso was celebrating its 20th anniversary and had some rather interesting offerings on their menu – stewed rabbit, if I remember – and I only wish I’d felt more adventurous that night. A return visit isn’t out of the question though!
