Newly opened in place of Starbucks is Overeasy’s latest joint at Liat Towers. Had a late brunch there with Glen to check out their new offerings…still gravitated back to the macaroni and cheese I remember liking so much from their Fullerton outfit. Rich, creamy and cheesy with a generous panko crust to give each bite some crunch. Broccoli and spinach made the dish a tad healthier, plus I couldn’t say no to some of my favourite vegetables! It’s not a big portion, and should be eaten quickly because the bechamel sauce coagulates and clumps when cooled (I’m a slow eater).
Glen’s fried chicken and waffles dish was described as being inspired by American diner chain Denny’s, which she gleefully had with a bacon milkshake. Almost diabetes-inducing but so much fun to drink, being served with a large slab of caramelised bacon. We nearly sent the chicken back to the kitchen for being undercooked, but were told that the meat was pink due to a unique brining process that ensures an all-round juicy winglet. The waffles had a nice flavour and paired well with the smokey, paprika-spiced wing crust.
Diner food and a kitschy space make for a fun outing. Definitely not for the health conscious.
