Heard so much about this place that it was almost a crime if we didn’t make the trip down since we stayed relatively nearby. Also, it happened to be dungeness crab season which made it possible to try their famed dungeness crab eggs benedict! The tantalizing sound of breakfast being described in such a way led us to shiver in the chilly morning air for a good 15 minutes – nothing compared to the weekend waiting time of 1 hour. Can’t say it was worth all the hype though, the overly sour hollandaise sauce of the benedict drowning out the sweetness of the crab, which was such a pity. Cranberry orange french toast was way too heavy on the sugar, and tasted more like a pound cake than the light, fluffy french toast we were so looking forward to. However the pancakes were truly a star, light and airy and superbly yeasty in taste. A joy to eat if only the portion wasn’t so huge (or perhaps it was just our order of three mains amongst the both of us). Simply put, I’ve had better, and I wouldn’t make the trip / queue…especially not on a weekend. Thank goodness for that pancake stack.
