Yountville: Bouchon Bakery

Happy New Year! I’m just about a week late into 2015 and this post is way overdue…so many things – and many excellent meals – have happened since I last penned down my tastebud thoughts. Here’s a goodie from our trip to California over the December break, a quick lunch on our Napa Valley tour because, well, the long queues at almost every other establishment was quite unappealing. We’ll definitely be back, with proper reservations this time, especially for Thomas Keller’s empire. Not that Bouchon Bakery was much of a disappointment; on the contrary the pulled pork was one of the best sandwiches I’ve had in a while, really cementing this honour with melt-in-your-mouth smokey, creamy pork encased in a lovely yeasty and chewy dough that was lightly grilled to crisp perfection. I still dream of it. Not too shabby themselves, the almond-pear tart was a delicious dessert with an especially crumbly sweet tart shell. Despite coming highly recommended the salted caramel macaron was somewhat of a disappointment, and an overkill given its size. It was so difficult picking out our lunch! I really wish we could have found space for the eclairs or a muffin or so, but really I’m just grateful for a beautiful balmy afternoon in the charming town of Yountville.
