Sorting through my photos brought back a flood of memories – in this case, particularly gastronomically great ones. Taiwan is an awfully underrated destination when it comes to ridiculously fresh seafood, and this modern Tsukiji is testament to that. Situated at a rather remote part of the city (I remember walking for a couple of hours under the midday sun), AAD is a must for fresh, tasty, succulent fish that needs no accompaniment to let the flavours shine. The tanks in which the seafood is kept is also displayed in a section of the AAD, if anyone is curious as to how marine produce appear in their raw form. I’ve always been fascinated by the truly odd appearances that sea creatures seem to adopt, Ariel wasn’t wrong when she sang about a whole new world! I’ll be the first to admit that they do creep me out though, so I’d prefer keeping them to art pieces on my plate. Point is, do make this a stop on your next trip to Taipei. So very worth the trek and wait.
