Singapore: Wah Kee Big Prawn Noodles

My latest obsession with prawn noodles is one I can’t explain. It’s best attributed to the hunt we embarked on given that it was one of Rachy’s cravings just before she left for US…miss her! Anyway, story goes that we made it down to Pek Kio Market (unsuccessful stop #2) where the stall was tightly closed contrary to the information we sourced online concerning its opening hours. A word of caution that they are apparently very irregular and will close once sold out. This time though, the queues were long and the lady grumpy, but the soup stock was flavourful, with herbal undertones though a little too sweet. Wish the prawn taste could have permeated the broth more! Prawns were sweet and juicy if a little one dimensional, until I got to the one with roe – always a winner. The Beach Road family of prawn noodles is really still my number one because of the special bee hoon used and the intensity of the soup stock, though it’s been diluted a little over the years. Amos claims Adam Road comes in as a heavyweight contender; guess which stall I’ll be heading too next?
