For some good ol’ starchy spicy slurping head down to Kin Kin Chili Pan Mee along Macpherson Road. It’s near A’s house so we swung by after seeing it glorified on instagram…which turned out to be the funniest thing because of the irony in someone hating ban mian choosing to go there. This is what happens when you don’t learn your Chinese / Hokkien properly. Anyway the noodles are quite different from the usual soupy fare, thinner and less starchy but cooked to a nice springy finish. Topped with braised minced meat, bouncy meatballs, anchovies, fried shallots, delicious chili and a soft-boiled / poached egg it makes for some gooey goodness when tossed together. I really liked how the noodles kept their tension yet didn’t dry out, since the balance is always difficult to strike. We also got a bowl of meatball soup, which wasn’t as memorable save for the very delicious soup stock and the spinach? Sweet potato? Leaves swimming around in it. I try my best to describe taste but today words fail me. Give it a try! Especially since there’s no need to travel to Kuala Lumpur anymore (home of the mothership stall).
